Springfield Technical Community College

Springfield, MA

Overview

The Springfield Technical Community College (STCC) is located on the site of the Springfield Armory National Park, 1 Armory Square, Springfield, Massachusetts. The original Armory dates back to the Revolutionary War and consequently many of the buildings on campus are on the National Register of Historic Places. The building ages ranged from 1819 to 1942. STCC requested that a full building envelope DCAMM study be conducted for thirteen buildings located on their campus to determine any repairs or maintenance that is required.

The study included visual observations of the roofs, facades, and where accessible, basements. Most of the facades consisted of load-bearing brick masonry, and the roofs consisted of slate. Building elevations for each building were produced to help document any needed repairs. Recommendations for the building repairs were prioritized based on severity and urgency to help create a maintenance and financial plan over a 10-year period.

The DCAMM report also included a hazardous materials study on the building envelope components, an estimated cost of construction for the necessary repairs, outline specifications for the repairs and, when required by the DCAMM instructions, a MAAB compliance review for accessibility regarding entrances, toilet rooms and drinking fountains.
