Job Description
| Position Title: Manager II | Department: Engineering |
| Reports to: CEO | Employment Status: Full-time |

Position Summary
The Senior Mechanical Engineer (Manager II) leads the Engineering team. This position provide mentorship and coaching to the team, sharing knowledge, insights and experiences.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Technical
- Subject matter expert on engineering principles, material properties, and other applicable engineering concepts.
- Maintains knowledge of all applicable codes, safety requirements, and other standards.
- Prepares working drawings and specifications and performs detailed calculations for complex projects.
- Prepares/reviews/approves technical reports prepared by Engineers and PEs. Coordinates design with all other disciplines.
- Ensures construction documents are stamped by an authorized individual and according to professional standards.
- Is proficient in and can instruct others with utilizing relevant design and analytical software.
- Takes a lead role in coordinating with multidiscipline teams.
- Proficient in communicating technical concepts, both verbally and in written form.
- Actively seeks the latest technologies related to engineering principles and practices.
Project Management
- Guides the team on providing technical expertise and advises client on best solutions and recommendations in design.
- When client requests are out of scope, price additional services, for review and approval by client.
- Guides the team in understanding client needs and analyzes constraints in project schedule, scope, and budget to add value through proposed solutions.
- Maintains project schedules. Direct certain members of a team through specific portion(s) of a project with the assistance of a project manager.
- Guides the team in leveraging knowledge of planning, design delivery, and construction completion to make informed recommendations to the client.
- Ensures project deliverables for the team are completed at the expected quality, and within budget and schedule.
- Asks thoughtful, relevant, and open-ended questions to better understand clients’ needs. Actively listens to develop rapport.
- Visits project sites, attends meeting with clients, architects and engineers.
- Prepare status updates on projects via reports and communicate to leadership, and internal clients. Reviews reports from Jr. staff.
Business Development
- Leverages professional network to engage locally with the industry on thought leadership. Engages in marketing efforts for company.
- Actively contributes to professional networks to share relevant knowledge expected from the client.
- Develops detailed proposals and estimates in support of the bidding process, working collaboratively with the marketing department.
- Responsible for developing new client business and engaging in strategic planning for the department.
Leadership/Management
- Lead Engineering Team by leveraging strengths and helping achieve goals/deadlines.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and provide a high quality of customer service.
- Maintains a people first approach and entrepreneurial initiative. Guides the team in assessing risk management and business impact when implementing process improvement.
- Assist leadership with executing the strategic initiatives of the firm and sharing ideas for improvement on implementation.
- Continues education to remain competitive with latest technologies and practices. Trains newly hired staff and assists with the development of staff through day-to-day interactions. Develops mentorship programs.
Financial Acumen
- Understands accurate timekeeping and the importance for project performance and budgets. Assist management with monitoring due dates and utilization of resources with the goal of project profitability. Approves timesheets, expense accounts and billing.
- Assists management with monitoring team labor and expenses. Reviews monthly labor reports.
Client Service
- Build relationship capital with clients through project work and networking events.
- Exhibits a balance of self-confidence and humility. Cultivates and gains trust through active listening and being a team player.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of experience preferred.
- Professional Engineer Licensure
- Ability to use Engineering software and Microsoft Suite products.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Normal office environment with moderate noise levels, occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs., regular walking, sitting, bending, twisting, standing and reaching.
- Ability to perform consistent work on PC.
- Travel may be required.

Technical
- Understands moderate engineering principles, material properties, and other applicable engineering concepts.
- Developing knowledge of all applicable codes, safety requirements, and other standards.
- Under the supervision of a licensed professional, performs design calculations for small projects or a detailed segment of a larger project.
- Prepares technical reports for review and approval for establishing the design criteria of a project.
- Has a familiarity with relevant design and analytical software.
- Coordinates work with multidiscipline teams.
- Takes a lead role in coordinating with multidiscipline teams.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts, both verbally and in written form.
Project Management
- Understands the scope of services as outlined in project contract and identifies when/if client requests are out of scope.
- Monitors project deadlines as it relates to deliverables within ones’ responsibilities.
