Momentive Performance Materials
Waterford, NY
Overview
This specific project involved a major process upgrade for one of their polymer processing kettles. The process upgrade consisted of installing two new positive-displacement product handling pumps, a large hot-oil system which fed a large hot-oil to product heat exchanger, a product filter system and a distillation collection tank for a solvent. The environment in the process area was all Class I, Division I, which dictated the requirements for the process equipment instrumentation and control systems. Specification drawings were developed for the distillation collection tank as well as written specifications for the large heat exchanger.
A new design was developed for the hot-oil, product handling, solvent handling and nitrogen blanketing systems. The piping used in the various systems ranged from standard 150lb class threaded carbon steel to 300lb class socket-welded carbon steel to 300lb class butt-welded stainless steel. New drawings developed for construction consisted of process and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID’s), electrical power distribution, control wiring, structural modification, equipment installation, component detail and piping.
EDM has completed several other projects for Momentive Performance Materials including but not limited to: Building #23 HVAC Replacement, Building #11 Office Renovation, Building #42A QC Lab HVAC Assessment, Building #37 Small Adds Mixing Station Exhaust, and several others.
