Overview
EDM designed a new 16,500 SF senior center for the Town of South Hadley. Prior to beginning the design process, EDM assisted the Town of South Hadley with a feasibility study that evaluated various building configurations, including an expansion of the existing building and replacement of the building with a completely new facility. The exterior design respects the abutting residential properties by breaking down the new building into smaller volumes, while also making sure to give the building a “municipal” feel. This is accomplished by detailing part of the facade similar to the old senior center building. The building’s interior circulation forms a “racetrack” that connects meeting rooms, classrooms, game rooms, library and lounges, offices and various support spaces in a way that enables easy access for users.
